how do you know when bowel blockage?

my bully MAY have swallowed some of a stuffed toy. Not sure.
induced vomiting - only food in stomach.
Not in his stools either.
Any thoughts or ideas?

Jennifer & Chief

how long before it came out?

he is eating, drinking, pooping normally.
i am not sure he even ate it. I have been checking his stool like crazy. & there is alot of it for sure.
I account for all toys too - they may have ripped it off & shredded it. My 2 dogs (bully & boston terrier) will eat sticks, grass, mulch chips - etc.
I wish I could get them to stop. I try hard.
How long before it came out?
It has been at least 3-4 days now.
thanks:)

timeline

My dog was sick for 2 days.
Then I took her in where she spent 3 days at vets.
I took her home on day 3.
then went to emergency vet that night where they flooded her with lubricant- minerla oil,
toy came out along with the runs next morning..

So the toy had been in her almost 1 week before it came out.
I only know the exact date because i had goten back from the dog show and the toy she got we only use in the ring- something she isnt allowed to play with freely as its too small. BUT she had stolen it off the kitchen table out of the grooming bag.

if you dog is eating, pooping and acting fine then at this point i would not be too concerned.

Here is a list of all the things this damn dog has ate and i often think she has 9 lives. We have found NOTHING it considered out of her reach.

Box of baby wipes (another emergency vet visit) and in a 2 week period we got over 5 wipes out of her butt! Had to cut them as they passed so she wouldnt injure her anus etc- they again flooded her with mineral oil and ky stuff.

+3 bags of dried apricots- had the runs for 3-4 weeks! on the kitchen counter..
+a Marie Calendar Lemon pie- yes entire pie! that had been sitting on the stove
+the small stuffie toy with a sqeeker as mentioned out of my grooming bag on the kitchen table
+tons of stuffing from stuffed toys-
+ the tip of a kong ( she is now only allowed the blue kongs because they are the only ones that show up on Xrays!)
+ bark, rocks, and a houseplant.
+ a liquid ant bait trap- now this one scared the crap out of me because its poison. But thank god the trap was dried up and filled with dead ants- she had just been chewing it- didnt eat the entire thing- we saw no signs of poisioning on this either.

Now you would think that i dont pay attention to my dog. But all of these things at th time, one would have NEVER thought a dog would get into. The ant trap was inside my trashcan- which she never digs into the trash. this is my kitchen dog and she lives in the dining room and kitchen area with acess to a private run and patio. So she is not allowed to free roam the house ever.
And we have leanred that anything on our kitchen counter is NOT out of reach for her. She will push a chair up next to the counter to get stuff.
And move them out to get on top of the table.

She is one goofy, dog! But we love her to death!

thankfully it came out

but that is not always the case. We have had a few rescues come in needing the obstruction surgery and its not cheap! I think we even had one bully who had a corn cob in him.

Zoey swallowed a squeeker from a toy....

and a couple of months (yes...months) later she had severe vomiting (9 times in an hour) and we took her to the vet. Long story short, the squeeker made it's way into her intestines and blocked them so anything she ate, came up and the blockage caused additional problems (pancreatitis).

She was pooping a little, but with not being able to eat, there was really nothing to poop. She even vomited water....

so if there are no problem like vomiting or not pooping, then I think you are okay but keep an eye out.

obstuctions

they can take months to become an actual obstruction to the point of sickness of a few days..

dog will not poop, will stop eating and become lethargic. possibly vomitting in trying to bring back up object- may become blood tinged, slight fever, and sunken eyes.

My bully ate a small stuffed toy filed with a squeeker

it was a palm sized octopus and I could not find i anywhere. i account for any toys on a daily basis and have them put up at night time.
I knew it was missing.
We went to vets- they kept telling me it was something else and
i finally ended up an an emergency vet where they floooded her with lubrictant, said if it didnt pass in 24 hours surgery would start at 10am.

Hope this helps and best of luck.
I hate this!

Piper and Phiona(mother & daughter) both obstructed.....

and the item they obstructed on took MONTHS to become a problem. Piper ate the end off a rubber toy and Phiona ate part of a crate pan(I don't get this-this cwap don't taste good-whats the attraction????). Piper's obstruction actually perferated(sp) a hole in her intestines and she was throwing up pancreatic fluid......burned her stomach and throat coming up. Ate Pepcid for months afterwards to keep food down......Phiona's cropped up after a csection......just keep an eye on your baby and if anything seems out of the norm I would take him in for a barium xray. Good luck......
