how do i know if i'm feeding my puppy enough food?

is there a way to know if he's getting enough because he acts like he's starving whenever i feed him. i'm afraid to free feed him because he's a pig! he's 6 months old today & i'm going to start feeding him 2 times a day starting tomorrow. (i have been 3 times a day)

I think you should bump it up to 4 cups a day...

2 cups twice a day.

He's still growing and very active so he's burning it off.

i am feeding him

american natural premium & he gets one cup, 3x day. once in a while a scoop of yogurt. i'm going to go to feeding him 2x day soon, since he's 6 months now. i didn't think it was too much, but it could be. he weighs 42 lbs, but doesn't look "fat".

How much though?

Mine is 6 months too and he eats 3.5 cups a day and 2 tbs of yogurt plus 1 small banana. cheese, yogurt, carrots, apples are occassional treats..he loves them. He weighs 37 LBS right now.

I would say if the stool is soft at night he is getting to much and he's not digesting it all. What type of food are you feeding him please?

poop soft?

If the poop is really loose, then may be getting too much. If poop is really hard and he's straining, then may be dehydrated.
