Hot Spot/GoldBond question

Gus' hot spot for the most part seems to be healing nicely. Like I said before it ended up getting quite large very quickly. What started out as a spot a little bigger then a silver dollar right in the middle of his back between the two front shoulders, turned into that plus spots on each side of the original spot about baseball size.

The original spot is completely healed. All of the hair is growing in and so far is about half length.

The two bigger spots are healing as well. No more puss or anything, that has seemed to all die off. The hair is starting to grow back in as well. There are some spots in these two bigger areas that are still "scab like". Those are the areas the hair has obviously not started to grow back in yet at.

I am continuing to clean the area still about 4 times a day. My question was since it seems to be healing and there is "scab" there now instead, does the GoldBond powder still need to be applied to the area. He doesn't ever really try to scratch it so that is not much of a concern. I was not sure if it would help the healing of the scabbed areas though or possible maybe even hinder it since it already stays dry now.

Re: At this point, I'd stop treatment and just watch it...

Looks like everything will be fine assuming since the original spot is coming back in nicely. Just hope these scab like areas heal up quickly and that hair grows in good as well. Should I at least still maybe clean those once in awhile with something like antibacterial soap or peroxide just to make sure it stays clean? Gus does like to roll around and wrestle with the others dogs outside so I was thinking it might get dirty when he does that.

Sure..

I'm presuming that since he likes to wrestle around in the dirt with other dogs that he gets a bath every week or two, and I'm suggesting that you can bathe those spots as part of a normal grooming regimen...no need to "baby them" further if the surface has scabbed/dried, with no new outbreaks. happy.gif

At this point, I'd stop treatment and just watch it...

if it looks to be starting up again, resume cleansing and powdering...otherwise should continue to heal normally...and you should be able to bathe him as you normally would, just be sure to rinse all areas well so soap residue doesn't irritate an already delicate skin surface. happy.gif Glad he's getting his fur coat back nicely too.
