Hot Spot?

Our bulldog seems to have a red infected area in face wrinkle would this be a Hot Spot? Is there a way to fix this at home? Or do we have to take him to the vet? We have been putting Gold Bond on it and that doesn't seem to be helping out a lot? I can try to get some pictures and post them.
Thanks

It's important to clean all the puss off or...

it won't heal properly. Shave the area if you have to.

Cleaning with Listerine will help it dry up in no time.

Ok thanks we'll try that. Guessing that he's not going to like that because it looks red and raw.
