About an hour and a half ago Tonka woke up from a nap acting as if he was going to get sick. He didn't but was coughing and making sounds as if he was. He ate dinner and is still continuing to make these noises. I guess he is coughing but it is as if he is trying to get something up. He seems to be fine. He is acting normal except for these coughs. Should I take him to the vet. I don't know what to do. Please some advice?!?!?!?!?!?!
Thanks.
Yes...It is Bordatella
and can be given in a shot or in the nose. It is good for 6 months. They can get a different strain of Kennel Cough though. Much like the flu.
Kennel cough
Ok. . . maybe i'm stupid. . . isn't that like a regular treatment when you take your dog into the vet?? I know when tink goes she gets a treatment that goes up her nose and it prevents her from catching it since I'm always around other dogs ( doggie park, petsmart, whatevers) maybe you could look into it?? regularly vaxing your dog for that HAS GOT to be cheaper than all the antibiotics to treat it!!!! I'd ask tho, cause I may be full of crap. . .
just my thoughts tho.
p.s. ..................
Treated early, kennel cough is not a big deal sort of like a cold.
Thanks...
To me it sounds like a hacking, trying to get something out cough. He is asleep again right now. I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow to be sure. Thanks for the hell... any additional opinions are greatly appreciated. I don't know what I would do without this forum... Tonka is my first bully and although I researched bulldogs for 3 years, I am still constantly seeking advice.
Thanks again.
maybe...?
If this were all on an empty stomagh, I'd say the probelm is acid reflux. However, since he's still coughing is this a 'clear your throat' cough, or lower down in the lungs.
Has you dog been around other dogs recently (other than dogs in the household?) He might have cought a bug (maybe kennel cough) and should see a vet tomorrow.
Other than those suggestions, I'm at a loss. Hope you're both feeling better soon.
If he sounds like he's got something caught in his throat...
and he's trying to hack it up, it could be kennel cough. Has he been around other dogs, petsmart, dogpark, even walking around the neighborhood? It's very easy to catch. Our guys have all had it at one time or another. The vet gave us some really good cough meds and antibiotics to prevent any secondary infections.
