Last night at 10pm. we brought our 8 month old girl out for her last potty run. She came in at 10:15 covered in red swollen lumps on her belly. Swollen lumps all over her flanks thighs, lower legs, only a few on her neck. Gave her 25mg. benadryl called doc. in am.
He noticed more lumps/bites in her ears also.
He gave her a shot of Vetalog2 and a script of Prednisone (1 tablet 2x a day taper dose), said to use the triotic salve that we have at home on and in her ears also. Said no more benadryl or atarax as the shot would take care of all of it within 6 hours.
She was never itchy. Now that the office is closed she is going crazy itching and has more bites/lumps. Also she just went into heat for the first time. Could this be the reason?
Is it OK to bathe her in the Microtek shampoo to help with the itch for tonight? Any help or advise is greatly appreciate as she is miserable now and we can't reach vet until tomorrow.
Thanks,
Becky
Sister now loaded with bites
I think it must be those little black flying things. Faith's sister Lily just started complaining in the middle of the night and when I checked on her she was loaded with welts and bites too. Lily just finished a bout with staph so I just started treating her for this too.
I am so discouraged with this. It seems like poor Lily always has something going on with her skin. Faith has never had an issue.

Bugs
All the dogs go out on lead at night. We spray the yard every 2 weeks for bugs. Haven't seen any ants yet. But still we are loaded with the little tiny black gnat like things(white ones too) We use advantix on everyone religiously, and spray the dogs with Skin so soft and h2o. I'm at a loss as to what to do next.
Bathed her and used more Benadryl. Also used Listerine and Gold Bond. She seems more comfortable now.
Thanks,
Becky
I agree cool h2o not sure re: Benadryl
we always use cool water as her sister tends to get a lot of recurrent staph. I am not sure if I can give more Benadryl as the vet said the injection would take care of it, but it sure is not working. Faith certainly doesn't think its working, she is miserable.
Her sister Lily just woke up complaining and she is loaded with the same type of bites/swellings. I figure since she has just gone through another bout of staph it can't hurt to give her some atarax for the itch and we do have it on hand.

If you do bathe her, use cool water...
not warm. Can you give her more benedryl? I can imagine how uncomfortable she is.

Yep...something attacked alright...maybe ants...
maybe a nest of something swarming, but I'd try the cool baths, perhaps adding some epsom salt (1/4 cup to gallon cool water) or baking soda to help relieve the itch. If you have a pharmacy open nearby you might consider using some type of sunburn pain spray (something to relieve the sting of the burn should also help quell some of the surface itching)...be careful to avoid eyes/nose.
Breve' got bit by something last year
the vet gave her the steroid shot and oral steroids. We were also told to give more benadryl.
You can use some topical benadryl or even listerine and some gold bond powder. It should get better soon.
Check for Ant's in the yard to see if she got in to something. Watch her close when she goes out and see where she goes.
