Help

This is our first english bulldog and we have a problem. Fletcher(10 months old) has a problem with alot of phlem. In the morning when we first get him up you can hear the gurgling in his throat. After a couple of minutes he coughs or gags and it clears or he brings it up. But there are times when he eats he will have the same sound and then he will bring up everything he has eaten. We have him on Royal Canin food. He didn't just start doing this. He has been doing it for awhile. At times we thought that it was because he got to excited. But today he was laying next to me on the sofa and just woke up and thru-up. We live on South Padre Island and there is no vet that specializes in bulldogs. Can someone give me some help? Does anyone no of a vet in this area or around hear that can help?

Fletcher

It has been longer then 2 weeks. But it seems lately that it is more frequent then it was before. We are trying to find a vet that has knowledge of English Bulls right now. There is no one around here that we think really knows. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for then response.

re vet referral

When looking for experienced veterinary care for your bulldog, first check the Home Page of this website (www.bulldogsworld.com) and look down 3/4 of the page for the section with vet referral info, listed by state. These are recommendations made by other participants. If that doesn't yield anything relatively close to you, then look at the BCA website (www.thebca.org) for their member clubs, also by region/state, and check out Texas...there should be more than one club listed. Contact the Secretary of that nearest club and ask for info about their meetings, and if they keep a list of vet referrals. If you attend a meeting, you can ask for introduction to 1 or more members who live closest to you and ask them personally which vet or vets they use. The reason I suggest you attend a meeting is that people are often more willing to share information (even vet referrals) with someone they meet face-to-face. Bulldoggers like to network, as do many other groups, so don't hesitate to invite yourself in. happy.gif

When you say a while...what does that mean?

Has it been a few weeks (like during the spring pollen season) or has it been longer than that? He may need to be evaluated for either elongated soft palate, inverted saccules, or tonsillitis, among other possibilities. All of those things are treatable, so don't get discouraged. Let us know how your baby does...
