Murphy started hacking last night and throwing up -- throughout the night.(just watery spit). I thought that maybe he had something in his throat (like a little piece of his toy or something). The person who is walking him called to say that he was hacking and did not want him around the other dogs.. He said that a cough had been going around day care last week (which Murphy has since been kicked out). Does this sound like a cough or more something in his throat?? The last time Murphy had a cough it sounded like a real cough..
Any idea's?? Does it sound like a Vet visit??
Re: Agree...sounds like kennel cough, or URI
If your dog has congestion in his lungs, your vet may not want to give him a cough suppressant so he can get up all that stuff in there. But he should be on an antibiotic for sure. You never really know if it is viral or bacterial or both.
Agree...sounds like kennel cough, or URI
and I would get some cough medication from the vet as well as antibiotics...if he doesn't carry cough medication, ask him to suggest a child's cough medication and dosing to use. It may take 1-2 weeks to pass but treat as you would yourself with same...extra rest, don't overheat, perhaps vaporizer run at night, and if coughing causes regurgiation, feed fewer smaller meals for several days. If cough persists after meds are gone, have vet recheck!
If he's hacking and throwing up bits of phlegm...
it sounds like kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection. Your vet can give you cough meds and antibiotics to get rid of it. Be sure to tell them when you bring him in that you need to be away from other dogs, it's highly contagious. Oscar had this a year ago and it does sound like they're trying to get something out of their throats.
I would.....
make a visit to the vet, just to be on the safe side. My female hacks sometimes..but never throws up.
