Gladiola bulbs

So - Roscoe just chewed up some gladiola bulbs. I've called the emergency vet, who said to give him some peroxide to prompt vomiting, and just keep an eye on him. Does anyone have experience with this?

thanks.

Hope Roscoe is okay!

We have not had that particular problem to happen but we are dealing with our Toby who loves to chew and eat everything! rocks, plums, etc etc He has recently found mothballs and ate at least one maybe 2 before we could stop him! Our vet gave us the same advice about the peroxide. It has worked, I pray! this was on Saturday- now I am getting him a vet appt. just to check his blood etc.(tried all day to get through!) Hope Roscoe recovers well!

Thank you Ela1ne!

The hydrogen peroxide did make him vomit a couple of times, and there were no bulbs in there, so I'm hoping he just chewed a few, and didn't swallow any.

The vet that I talked to said they are mildly toxic, not as bad as a lot of the other plants out there. I found a couple of helpful websites http://www.biscaywaterdogs.com/Websites/biscay/Images/Poisonous%20plants%20to%20dogs.pdf shows the most common toxic plants, and the signs of poisoning.http://www.midtownanimalclinic.com/poisonous%20plants.htm shows just how toxic these plants are, and puts them into catgories.

So it looks like gladiola bulbs are mildly toxic, and if he had eaten them would have had vomiting and diarrhea. Right now he's laying next to me on a 2-seater rocker outside in a gazebo watching the fire burn, so I think he's good. WHEW.

Lesson learned - he will really eat ANYTHING!

Depending on his weight, how much he consumed, whether

he had food in his stomach, etc. etc. he may feel sick or he may vomit up the bulbs before they truly began to "digest". Were you able to get him to vomit from 1-2TBSP of peroxide?
