Foot/leg injury ?Limping puppy

Augustus(4 months old) was running around in my friends barn the other night like a crazy dog and looked like he put his foot down wrong,he limped a bit afterwards but isn't sensitive to the touch anywhere on the leg.He woke up the next day limping worse and went back to sleep(normal),then when he woke up again he was not limping.I put some bagbalm on his feet thinking maybe he had a cracked pawpad or stepped on something sharp(his paws were dry).He woke up today limping but not as bad,so I gave him 1/2 of on aspirin and he seems fine again. He is still not sensitive to the touch anywhere on that leg(front right),my question is:can dogs get sprains and how long do I wait before I bring him to the
vet?

Watch him for a couple of weeks or so....

Keep him quiet and give him the aspirin, and watch him for a couple of weeks. I would use your crate if you have one, and let him rest up. May just be a pull or strain of some sort.

keep him still

if you can keep him crated or gated in a small area then do so. No running, jumping, strenuous exercise, no stairs. Probably just a sprain that will heal if he is kept as calm as you can keep a pup.

I personally don't like to give aspirin unless absolutely necessary because it masks the pain and they can overdo - sometimes re injuring themselves.

Just an FYI and to show you it can take awhile - - when Sumo was young he played SuperSumo and jumped down off the bed, which he always did without incident. This time, he landed too hard and jarred his shoulder and was limping. He wasn't in any real pain but it took close to 3 months until he was good as new and the limping stopped. The whole time he was confined to the kitchen with no stairs or jumping. We lifted him on and off the sofa when it was cuddle time.

Joe....

read my posts....Kahlua had the same problem..It persisted for about 3 weeks and we finally decided to take her to the vet,cuz the aspirin,I think, was making her sick..She ended up having some sort of "doslocated knee" not surgery required...yet...She is 6 1/2 mnths old and our new vet says to wait til she is atleast 1 year old, maybe it will work itself back into place, but if not by then, then she may require surgery..We were worried it was her hip..Luckily it is not as major..Anyhow,he gave her pain meds to use as needed for pain and said take it easy on the hind leg....So maybe Augustus just did get a sprain, cuz when we first got there,he mentioned that....Not too much help, but figured I'd share my story...Hope it helps some...
