Eye Question/(Bite&Swelling)

Hi,
I brushed Addison Dewey (Dewey for short) this morning and checked over him as usual and nothing was wrong. I get a call at work and my mom says the outer end of Dewey's eye looks like it is swelling. She comes over and takes them out and usually lets them out on the shaded patio a few minutes afterwards.
I figured that he must have got stung or bitten by something. She said it looked like a bug bite. She's had bullies before so she gave him Benadryl. She gave him a whole 25mg tablet, 1 mg for every pound she said was correct, Dewey weighs about 52lbs. I usually start out with half of a 25 mg tablet though and give the other half later. Is that okay? I've been worried because he's been sleepy, poor thing. (I am glad in a way because I wouldn't want him to itch there or anything at the corner of his eye.)
I came home and it does look like a mosquito bite right on the outer edge of his eye or a bee sting. But in a way it looks like a blister that would show up on the back of your foot. Like it has a little fluid in it. Any of you ever had something like this pop up? Also, since he's still pretty sleepy I put a little dab of Neobacimyx-H, an antibacterial ophthalmic? ointment on it because I figured since it was made for animal's eyes it would probably be the only safe thing I could put at the corner of his eye until we can get to a vet, if it doesn't get better.
Is there anything else I can do, when should I give another Benadryl, or should I take him to an emergency vet in case it isn't a bug bite? Any advice would be great! I did check him this morning and that's the only reason I thought it had to be something that bit him and it looks that way. If there's anything else I might not know of that could cause this on the outer corner of the eye please let me know. Thanks in advance for your response!

Thanks !

Dewey's eye looks better today but still a little inflamed. I'll give another tablet of Benadryl today just to make sure it all goes down or stays less swollen like it is now. My mom said "see you should trust me for now on" after reading Helen's e-mail!ha!
I do have a question though, I noticed last night Dewey was kinda twitching more often in his sleep, is that common? It was like when you are real sleepy and your leg jumps/twitches and wakes you up. He did that all through the night. I figured the Benadryl probably made him very sleepy but didn't know.
Thanks for all of the response, I'm so happy it looks better!!!

Benedryl

Your Mom is correct, you can give up to 2 for his weight. hat will make him sleepy. 1/2 really will not do too much at his weight.

Re bite

I'm sure he's sleepy because of the benedryl - it always knocks Oscar out. If he doesn't seem to be in any distress or developing hives or anything, I would just keep an eye on it and use neosporin or something similar to help it heal up. It could be a bug bite or a pimple.

Re: Re bite

Thanks Kathy,
He doesn't have hives or anything. But, the swelling on the eye hasn't really gotten better. It looks like it's traveling down his face, still like a big bug bite or bee sting, but I'm starting to get uncertain. It looked like it at first but now it looks bigger. Before, going to bed, I gave him a half of a 25mg tablet, just in case a breakout or swelling would increase since the first Benadryl tablet has worn off. I plan to check on him throughout the night. I also tried a warm compress.
I am scared of the Neosporin because this is right at the crack of his outer eye edge, in the corner. He's still bullyish even when half asleep, and I'm scared I'd get it in his eye. If not better by lunch I'll bring him to the vet! Thanks again so much!
