HELP!!! Okay...so Precious [my BABY BULLY!] She is 4. She has ALWAYS had ear infections and I was ALWAUS able to take her to the vet they would go away with the proper treatment & antibiotics! But this time...it has been weeks- even months and the vet has given her the oral antibiotics twice now & I put the drops in religiously BUT STILL NOT ANY BETTER!!! The YEAST & GUNK STILL BUILDS UP!!! I swear I can see it closing on her and like something...growing??? It is REALLY weird & I am freaking out...I dont want her to lose her hearing. The vet I went to said it was just swollen- but I have looked at her EVERYDAY for 4 years and it does NOT look NORMAL in that ear! She has been shaking her head a lot and it almost seems like she is just living with it! I live in Las Vegas and the specialist Dr Arn is out here...but I owe them $250 and I REALLY do NOT HAVE that!!! I would be able to spend that to fix the ear...but not THAT & an additional!!! I am a YOUNG MOTHER of a difficult breed!!! Money is extremely tight!!! but she is my baby and I hate to see her in PAIN!!!! PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!! ANY ADVICE!??? What can I do now??????????????????
Have you asked the Spec Vet...
If they will see her and let you make payments? I know our Cat had a blockage in his peepee and had a UTI too it was aweful they had to put a cath in and they had to do an IV and they kept him for 3 days and It was going to cost me 800.00 and I could not afford it my husband had lost his job and I have two children but I was also not going to put him to sleep (only other option) because I couldnt afford the treatment.. and they let me make payments I gave them like 5 postdated checks for the days I got paid and I had never! been to this vet before as it was not our norm vet.. As I could not get there before they closed so I just ran into the one closest to my house. You should ask! It would be worth it I am sure if you explain the situation that they will be willing to put the Dog's needs before there $$ gain! good luck! and I am praying for you!

Melissa, I am so sorry for all your stuff going on..
That really sucks. If I couldn't go to a vet, I would try changing her food and using the Zymox. It worked for Belle. Maybe it will work for your dog.

I am Located in Las Vegas, NV...
We have one of the BEST BULLDOG Vet's out here...Dr Arn at Desert inn Animal hospital...but I owe them $250!!! so I had to take her to another vet...the ointments and antibiotics have NOT been helping....maybe made them worse...and i even was telling him! They should pay for the surgery huh?? I will definitely not take her to THAT vet for the surgery!!! only Dr Arn..and I have NOT been able to afford it!!! her health is fading!!! I am SAD!!!! She had that lump I mentioned earlier and her tail pocket is terrible! I have ALWAYS bought her expensive food- no table scraps. My ex-fiance of 9 years [just left me!] he said he was going to use his tax return to take her to the vet...then he cheated on me...so this situation just got WORSE and WORSE!!! I am NOW paying ALL my bills myself and am barely hanging on. Car was just repo...I hate this ECONOMY!!! Sorry- I have NO ONE TO VENT TOO!!!!

I AM WORRIED...
I found that on Amazon. I was about to order...I can see her ear closing...abd there is something that has grown- maybe frome the inside...it is hard to tell. But the ear REALLY bothers her...she shakes her head daily. We have battled ear infections in that ear from day #1. I have a HUGE QUESTION...will that surgery cause her to lose her hearing!?????
I am REALLY REALLY WORRIED NOW!!!

You need another vet to look at her ears..
Belle's ear was closed tight enough that the vet could not get a scope down it. I took her off California Natural and put her on Canidae Lamb and Rice. What worked for my dog may not work for yours.

Your dog's ears may just be swollen, so don't panic! Go to another vet.

It's this..
http://www.amazon.com/Zymox-Otic-Hydrocortisone-Free-Bottle/dp/B0002AL6VU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1244997011&sr=1-1

green bottle. Clear liquid.
Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution
This will not work if your dog's ear is already closed and calcified. She may need ablation or partial ablation surgery. Your vet's wait and see attitude was not good. Hope that isn't the case and it is something that can be turned around!!
no. her's did not get that bad.
Where are you located?

calcification build up...
She may need surgery to remove the growth. You need to see another vet.

forgot to mention. Belle's ears are both clear and open now!
It took about three weeks of daily Zymox and the food change to get her ears all cleared up. It's been a couple of months now and her ears are perfect.

I just went through this with Belle...
My vet put her on Otomax and that didn't work. She put her on Baytril Otic and a special cleaner and that didn't work. Finally she suggested using Zymox. I changed her food to Canidae Lamb and Rice AND I put her on Zymox Otic Hydrocortisone free.

Before the food change and Zymox, the vet said one of her ears was completely closed. She said if it didn't clear up she might have to have ear ablation surgery. That is probably what you are looking at for your dog if things don't turn around.
I'm not saying the Zymox is going to work, but you can buy it online without a prescription and I've had good luck with it. Google it to read more about it. We use it for rescue quite a bit and it has been very successful for many dogs.
Changing her food is important too.
It's one of those cases where if you keep doing what you're doing, you will keep getting what you got. You have to make changes.
Good luck--

This is a great suggestion. Also....
Ask the specialist practice, or whichever vet practice you see, if they accept Care Credit. This is a program that lets you take up to a year to pay off a vet bill with little or no interest. If not, ask if you can work out a payment program. I hope you can work it out.

I just went through the exact same thing, .............
after years of antibiotics, ear medications and trying to keep his ears clean, finally told my vet that this is not working and wanted her to do an ear culture. The culture was then sent out for testing. Guess what!!! it came back and identifed the bacteria and a different antibiotic was prescribed. What we were doing was not the correct treatment.
He has been on it for 2 weeks and no more swollen ear. Like the other have said. Trust yourself..you know your dog. Good luck...Hope this helps.

what food are you feeding her?
sometimes the type of food can cause this too. My dogs have done well with Orijen. TOTW pacific stream is okay too, but their toes get red so I stopped and have stuck with Orijen dog food.

my dogs always have it, it comes and goes
and the ointment that works for me is the Ottomax, it does need a vet's prescription and just order it online at 1800 pet meds, get the biggest size. I use the T8 solution to clean the ears, using a qtip to remove the gunk then drop 2-3 drops inside the ear and some on the outside to reduce the inflammation and repeat 2x a day, morning and night and repeat every 2 or 3 days, it will improve.

i've learned the hard way
that you know your dog better than any vet. (even if you don't know medical things) get a second opinion for sure!

Get a second opinion.
An office visit can only be 40 or 50 bucks....do you have that to spend? If so, I would recommend seeing a second veterinarian...one with Bulldog experience...and get yourself someone proactive that will swing into action to help your dog.
Best wishes to you guys....let me know if I can help...
