Dozer update, what do u guys think? (pics)

Took dozer to the vet after he chewed on his hemocytoma and it ended up looking like this,

They put him on an antibiotic (cephloxin?) to help with the infection and kept him on the Tresaderm for a topical treatment as well. And its been about 5 days on the med's and now it looks like this.

Now the vet said if it got to looking better by Thurs we wouldn't have to have surgery to remove it. He is scheduled for surgery on Thurs but i wanted to know if you guys think its looking better or should i go ahead with the removal? The vet says it may be hard for that area to heal after a removal because there's not much skin there to staple closed after the removal is done. I just want my poor boy to heal up, he hates his collar he has to wear to keep him from chewing his foot and it's just not healing as fast as i hoped it would. Any advice is appreciated.

looks better. Roxy's is looking better too..

I'm so relieved that Roxy's nose rope hystiocytoma finally seems to be shrinking. My vet said to give it 2 months and if it doesn't go away, she will cut it off. Two months will be July 1st. Roxy is almost nine, so I worry about putting her under. Not to mention, I don't want a big chunk out of her nose rope!

She was on cephalexin for a month, but now all I'm doing is putting ear cleaner on it (Nolvasan Otic)and then I dust with Gold Bond Baby Powder. My poor little Roxy Rudolph!

What causes these darn things!!??

I second that

His life will be so much better once he's comfortable and good at wearing an e-collar. Make it just long enuf to reach the end of his nose. He should be able to eat, drink, go up & down stairs and hop on the sofa with it on.

Some day if he's ever really sick and needs to wear one, you'll be so glad he's comfortable with it & it isn't causing more stress.

I agree entirely...

it will take 3-4 weeks or more for it to completely heal on its own...it will take about 3-4 weeks or more for it to heal after surgery but that will risk anesthesia and add a couple hundred bucks to the vet's billfold...which would you choose?

my two centsworth

I think it looks alot better.  With the probloems for healling with surgery, I would porbably give it more time, but ask you vet too.

looks a little better but...

Ask your vet what he thinks... I always listen to the doc because (I hope) he knows best.

Looking better to me, too!

How long of a course on the Keflex?
Did the vet recommend any other type of wound care (eg: washing)?

I think it looks a lot better.

Give it a few more days and see what it does. I would wait on the surgery until you see in a week or so what it looks like:-)

I agree with Tom

Does look better. I'd give it a little longer than Thurs. You can always reschedule later if needed. =)

I definitely think it looks better

I personally would hold off on the removal

I Hate to be the hard............

ass, but your baby needs to wear the e-collar to prevent further damage and infection. He will adjust and you have to not feel guilty or sorry, it really in his best interest. Cut it back about 3-4 inches if necessary. It will only be for a while. Surgery will only cost you more $$$ and he will still have to wear an e-collar after surgery. Hope Dozer feels better soon.

i think it looks better, give it time and continue

with the antibiotics for 2 or 3 weeks more. It looks like it is healing, but I don't think hair will grow in that area after it is completely healed. An open wound like this takes time so give it time and to continue with the medication. Surgery will be the last resort if it is not healing as that area will be hard to stitch up unless there is lots of skin there.
