does my bulldog drinks to much water?

my shoshanna drinks so much water she throws up. and then drinks that (i know it's grosse)so we limit how much water she drinks.when she goes out side we have to watch her like a hawk any water or any chance she gets she will drink untill sick. She has been doing this as long as i can remember.we picked her up at 7 1/2 weeks and she will be 6 years old shortly. Thanks for any help.DH

Re

Mine does this too.

He slurps down tons of water, walks about 2 feet and pukes it up all over the floor. It doesn't happen everytime he drinks, but at least twice or three times a week I would say.

I do try to not fill his bowl completely full of water, but it doesn't seem to matter.

either a low grade uti or diabeties.....these are signs of excessive drinking also thyroid problem...i would do some blood work to just things checked out....your dog is now considered a senior.....

suggestion:

Get a good blender or food processor and put ice cubes in to make "ice chips" and fill her bowl with that. It has to slow her down to lick those, or even munch a mouthful...she'll be getting liquid and hopefully not as quickly as when she gulps down water along with air which, when burped, causes the vomit.

You said your vet tested her blood for diabetes...was that recently (within past 6mos?)and was that done on an empty stomach? How is her urine...very dark or smelly, or normal medium-to-light yellow with light odor?

You might also try teaching her to accept a squirt/spray bottle nozzle in her mouth to receive a drink. Many show people teach this to their dogs...adds a bit of moisture to a dog that may have been panting without adding enough to cause drool. Just be sure you squirt it into the side and not the back of the mouth, so you don't inadvertantly squirt it into her windpipe.
