Difference between Ringworm and a Hot Spot?

Is there a noticeable difference between a patch of ringworm and a run-of-the-mill hot spot?

How can you tell the difference? I ask because I've heard that animal ringworm is contagious and can be spread to humans, but it's slightly different from the human tinea type.

IMHO ringworm is ringworm!!! It ia contageous both ways from dog

people to dog. It is a fungus not a worm and it is in the form of a circle or ring, red with no hair and a slightly raised rim hense the name. A hot spot can be any shape but usually is also bleeding and gooey.
Ringworm can be treated topically with a solution of Clorox and water 1 part clorox to 8 parts water, just use an old washcloth to apply to the whole area and also the surrounding area. A hot spot can be from leaving on soap/shampoo residue after bathing(not rinsing well enough). I give the dog a bath, rinse extra well then dab Listerine Mouthwash (regular brown) all over the hot spot and surrounding area , pat as dry as you can then dust the area with Gold Bond medicated powder.
