Georgia is 5 yrs old and has had trouble lately with whelps, allergies, and now this weekend, lots of diarhea.....i have started giving pumkin (canned) on top of her food which i cut down to 3/4 cup twice a day. She eats Purina One which is what her vet suggested. There have been no problems until recently in the last 3 months. Is there a better food that is for sensitive tummies or allergy prone dogs? I also just gave her one imodium. anything else i can do until tomorrow ? she is eating fine, and even wants more than i am giving her and drinks plenty of water which i am glad. thanks for any help!!
I will get back on my grain free soapbox...
it can help with allergy problems. We feed Taste of the Wild Paficic Stream which is salmon based. There are also grain free from Natural balance and others. In my opinion Purina 1 is not a very good food, too many fillers, probably too much protein. You might want to do a totally bland diet until the diarhea clears up and then start her on a better food after that. Bland diet is brown rice, boiled chicken or hamburger.

What Purina One formula are you using?
There is a Purina One Sensitive Skin and Stomach formula. I've never tried it myself but I know some people on this board have had luck with it and I've read some good customer reviews on it.
Of course, as Kathy mentioned, going grain-free might be an answer as well. I've heard many people rave about how it's drastically improved their dog's digestive systems.
I've been through the diarrhea nightmare myself and know how frustrating it is. DiaBac for dogs has worked great for me to firm up the loose stool when nothing else worked.
Hope your pup is feeling better soon!
What is the protein content in taste of the wild
I have a problem with my dogs right now, they are all so red eyed and itchy. Hoping it's just the pollen, but they are biting and chewing at themselves. They are on Wellness simple solutions right now, ears are red too. I just thought that the protein level in the foods should stay at around 20% or so. Also the amount of stool produced on a grain free diet. I ahve one that needs to express his glands often and the food that he is on is California natural and it does help that condition.
The protein is under 25%...
and their stools are really firm.

I'm talking about the pacific stream - salmon based.
