Does anyone have a picture of what demodex mange looks like. Zoey has a little pink spot on her side. Hoping it's not the start of mange. She is 8 months old. Thanks!

is Goodwinol. It comes in a small white jar and you get it from the vet. (Mine charged $13.50.) Sorry it took so long to respond. I had to find the stuff. Good luck with your dog's eye surgery. Michael

This was a little spot where the hair fell out and the skin showed through. When it was scraped, it was demodex mange. It never spread any further. Chloe was about 7 month at the time.

but 'Goodwinol' ointment has been around for years to treat mange. It is a thick 'clay flowerpot' colored stuff that comes in a small white jar and has a blue label. Another old time remedy to try is Rotenone shampoo. Both of these are available from catalogs like KV Vet or Revival. Also give your dog supplements that will boost their immune system like Forti Flora or ProZyme, yogurt and Ester C.

Do you have any idea what the "ointment" was that you used for Bully's demodex? Punkie has had it as well and my vet prescribed Ivermectin paste. Punkie is clear of it now but you never know when it might crop back up. I would rather treat her with an ointment than Ivermectin.

I don't have any pictures either, but Bully had mange about a year or so ago. It presented as small bald spots around the neck and on his upper front legs. On Bully, these spots were gray rather than pink. The vet did a scraping and it tested positive for deodectic mange. I looked in the microscope and saw the organism. It looks like a black cigar with a pointed tip.
The treatment was easy. She prescribed an ointment that comes in a small jar. I would rub a little of this into each spot and within a couple of weeks, all the mange was gone. (I'm told it's not always that easy.) The vet said that all dogs have these organisms. Symptoms present when the immune system is compromised or overloaded and then the organisms multiply out of control.

I don't have a picture but the vet missed it the first scraping in 3 different places and picked it up a few months later. It was my daughters pup. She is 7 months old. She had 1 or 2 bald spots about the size of a dime now she has them all over her body and is being treated. I'll try and get a picture later. Roanne
