Cough- Suggestions

Hi guys,
My two year old Bullie started to develop a slight hacking cough yesterday- it sounds like he is trying to clear his throat. I often hear this kind of cough from him when he drinks water too fast, but he was doing it more yesterday. I am a bit paranoid becasue he has had pnemonia in the past and I don't want this cough to develop into a URI or pnemonia. Should I take him to the vet for chest x-rays or can I satrt him on over the counter cough syrup. Any suggestions would be greatly apprechiated! Thank you.

I would wait another 24hrs and if still coughing, go to vet.

Not only will you learn if there's any fluids in the lungs, the vet may prescribe some antibiotics which may be more effective than cough medication. Ask for a dose to use if you do need the cough medication (Robitussin children's formula <no alcohol>).

Has he been in a kennel or around.........

other dogs? It could be kennel cough. My puppy got it in puppy class and gave it to my older one..
Yuck! Both with kennel cough.........they were given Clavamox but mainly because my vet was concerned with the older one and Robitussin DM for the cough but they hated that. So I would take her to the vet if you think there is any chance of kennel cough.
