Cough????

Fonzie came home last wednesday 8/08/07 with a cough and runny nose??? He had surgery at DR. Butchko's and was there 10 days....Could this be Kennal Cough??? He was throwing up his food or mucus like white stuff... we took him back to Butchko's on Saturday 8/11/07 and he said he had a throat infection and a slight temperature of 102..... He gave a 3 shots and 4 different types of medications, Carafate,Baytril,Temaril & Reglan... All of which I have been giving Fonz 2 times a day for the past 2days..... It sounds like if he is clearing his throat quit a bit and gagging like noises???? It seems to happen alot more at night then during the day??? Please help!!!!

re cough...

It sounds like kennel cough, or maybe his throat got irritated from the intubation tube. If it is kennel cough, it will last up to 2 weeks. Did they give you any cough meds? When our guys had it, the vet gave us pills called Tussigon and it worked wonders. 102 is in normal range for dogs.

some info

The carafate is given to treat or prevent ulceration from esophagus to stomach; the Temeril is given for cough. THT

Temeril...

Is a combo antihistamine, and steroid. It should help dry up the mucous, and reduce swelling at the surgical site. Carafate is sort of like a chemical bandaide for the stomach. It coats the stomach and upper part of the small intestine. Very helpful in inflammation or ulcers.
