Submitted by roanne9145 on April 20, 2010 - 11:59pmMy boy is 3 weeks and constipated. He has been bottle fed because mom had no milk. Does anyone know what to give a 3 week old for this? My vet said pumpkin pie mix. I know 100% pure pumpkin is for the runs but never heard of using pumpkin pie filling. any help would be appreiciated. He is lapping up milk now and on Esbilac 2 and rice cereal.

yep, a little karo syrup should do the trick. I don't think you
give a puppy or dog pumpkin pie MIX...it's full of sugar which would not be good for them. Canned pumpkin is fine.

Usually just a finger dipped in Karo syrup and then allow the
pup to lick/suck off the syrup is enough to stimulate bowel action...this would be equal to about 1/3 teaspoonful I'm guessing. If this helps but doesn't remedy entirely, do it again a few hours later. If you have cats, and have some CatLax which is in a tube, you can probably give 1/4inch of that as well...its meant to stimulate cats to pass hairballs. LOL
