constant panting

I have two bulldogs, one male one female.

The female dog is currenty on her heat cycle
so that the male dog keeps sniffing and licking on her vigina.

They are both 10 months old, from seperate pedegree.

Ever since the boy started to get interested in the girl's vigina, he deosn't stop panting.
well i know that boys get excited becuase of the secret smell that the girl emits from her vigina.
but this panting behavior never stops.

I thought the temperature and humidity were possibly causing the panting issue
I turned on AC for a couple of hours for the optimal temp. and humidity.

The girl would show normal breathing, no problem at all
but the boy can't stop panting.

It seems like he can't fall asleep becasue of panting.

Is this some kind of genetic defact, like cherry eyes, or a common habit for male dogs when female dogs are on their heat cycle?

Please peoeple let me know.

I am exetremely concerned and in panic.

Thanks in advance

Could be a couple of things...

He's excited. His girl's in season. OH BOY! OH BOY! You should keep them seperated at ALL times during her heat cycle. When she's ready to be bred he WILL mount her and do his thing. It can happen in a split second.

The other thing is that this is his first summer. His trachea may be smaller making it harder to cool himself down with panting. Keeping the a/c on will not only cool off the house but it will also lower the humidity and the panting will stop.

KEEP THEM SEPERATED. DON'T EVEN LET HIM SNIFF HER. YOU'RE ONLY ASKING FOR TROUBLE.

We never let boys out with girls when in season

and sometimes pull the girl in season in a different room. The males still know she's around but it's not constantly in their faces to work them up. Poor boy needs to be separated from girl. My girls also wear underpants so everyone stays away from that area. The girls sometimes can get very aggitated with others around their woohoo, especially during season. I agree with Sue-separate those babies for 2-3 weeks.

To those who understand no explanation is needed. To those who don't no explanation is possible.

Yes, please....separate them!!!

This ten month old male is acting "normally" in responding to the discharge and odor of the female in heat. He will try to mount her and may be successful. Then you will have a pregnant 10 month old which is very akin to having your THIRTEEN year old daughter PREGNANT! I certainly hope you are planning to wait until she is in her 3rd heat or at least two years old before considering breeding. Anything younger is a definite strain on the bitch, will probably produce a small litter and a dam who is too immature to properly take care of the pups...besides the risk to her life which is real.

Separate the dogs for the 3 weeks that she is in heat. If you don't have separate rooms for them, invest in a sturdy baby gate and don't allow the dogs to jump up on them (teach them not to). Excessive panting can indeed cause you to risk losing your male. Are you watching the color of his tongue...is it dark red or bluish? That would be a sign of oxygen deprivation resulting from swelling in the throat/tongue. Air-conditioning is a help, but prevention is the best response. happy.gif
