Coat looking

Finn had a nice shiny coat when he was on Canidae but now that I switched him to Hills Science Diet light (per the vet) his coat is getting dual. Any suggestions on what I can give him?
I am upset that he is looking dry, people have always commented that he has a beautiful, soft, shiny coat.

thanks

my vet says he uses it and he had me put my other BD on it in his later years as he was having problems with too much protein. he passed at 11. 12.5 good for you thats great! the thing i dont like is finn is licking like crazy his feet are a mess. i may have to switch him to core wellness.
thanks for all the input. it helps.

try veggies

My dogs love veggies! Can't get any more fiber than that! Canned, frozen (thawed) or fresh! Green beans, broccoli, carrots, you name it! The like fruit too but I stick to the veggies so they are low cal. Have to watch those cute little bullie butts you know?

I agree about the food

I changed him because he was throwing up and vet felt his stomach was empty he said the SD has a lot of fiber in it and will keep him full. I told the vet (bully vet) I don't like that food it's crap. He said it's fine his 2 bulldogs are on it. He said it would also help with Finn's breathing in the heat. I must say he has not thrown up once since switching but is licking like crazy. I really am not happy about giving him the SD I thought he was doing well on the canidae until he started throwing up. Plus SD is more expensive. He has been on this about a month I thought you should wait before switching them. The canidae had the omega 3's in the food. The vet felt between feedings Finn was getting hungry and that's why he was throwing up. He said the SD will keep him full longer. What other food has a higher fiber content?

I so agree...All Science Diet is...

so bad, bad, bad!! Put him back on the food he was on and give him Fish Oil twice a day until his coat comes back to life! I use the WalMart brand Fish Oil. I buy the twin pack...it's less than $10. Vitamin E is very good too. Fish Oil and Vitamin A will not only improve his coat but boost him immune system, as well.

If you still have the bag of Cannidae and a bag of Science Diet, just look at the ingredient list. You won't want to give your boy another bite of Science Diet!

I know I'm a minority voice here re food but

I feed Science Diet...have for many years...tried others and gone back to it again and again. Its a decent food, my dogs have no food allergies, their coats are thick and normally healthy and I have always supplemented with a canine vitamin, PetTabs daily to boost immune system. I give salmon treats but only started that a couple years ago. I give gluocosamine/condroitin supplement daily but my dogs live long lives and arthritis comes into play in later years so I try to prepare for that with this supplement...but back to basic diet...no complaints here about SciDiet Senior...Dale is 12yrs2mos old...and going. happy.gif
