Is Cipro safe for puppies?

Skunk has a UTI and I only have cipro(250mg). Wasn't sure if it was safe for a 17-18 week old puppy. I am out of ceph and only have a few amoxicillin. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

To those who understand no explanation is needed. To those who don't no explanation is possible.

Thanks Jacinda!

I knew cipro metabolized in the body similar to baytril so figured it wasn't safe for puppies. It was all I had on hand. Guess we'll be getting some ceph happy.gif)) Thanks!!

start him on the amox, even though i hate amox

and put him on some cranberry capsuls. Take him in to the vet and get more amox for 10 to 14 days.

He should feel better after 2 days on the meds. If he has crystals, dont worry, it could be from the UTI not being treated.

no it should be avoided

similar drug to Baytril and can cause joint and bone development problems.
I would use the amoxi you have and order some fish amoxi to be delivered overnight from Revival.com!

You will need an antibiotic...

If you can.. also get some 500 mg capsules of Cranberry powder. I give Isabella one in each meal, so two a day. She hasn't had a UTI in months, and she is an SB girl and prone to them. I also give her a tablespoon of yogurt in ewach feeding to help keep good bacteria going in her little self. Those things won't replace a good antibiotic, but they can help Skunk get over the UTI faster and keep it form coming back again.
