Can someone please help me??!

I took Jade to the beach for the first time and she had a blast but she drank some water and is now feeling miserable. She has thrown up about 8 times and I can tell that she feels nauseous. Is there something that I can give her to make her feel better?

Also, is it o.k. if I skip her second feeding since she already threw up her breakfast and I don't want her to do the same with her dinner or what food can I give her right now? Thanks in advance for your help.

One more thing, (sorry)

She is making this raspy sounds like she wants to cough and I can hear that she has phlegm but she doesn't cough, she just makes the motion, is like when a dog wants to bark but doesn't. Am I making sense? Am I just worrying too much?

I just got off the phone with Emergency clinic

The told me the same thing and to check if her gums were pink or pale. They are pink (yay!) but I am still worried because the vet said that sometimes there could be anti-freeze in the water. I sure hope not! sad.gif.

Is it normal for her to look so tired and miserable, I am honestly about to cry because she has never felt like this, she is a VERY healthy dog and to see her so sad brakes my heart sad.gif

Thank you so much Elaine and Shelly.

Another voice for withhold food till tomorrow, little water okay

She certainly won't starve missing one day's food (they do it all the time when they have surgery) and she's not in fragile condition otherwise so no worry. She should be fine tomorrow. happy.gif

Thank you Gary

I have an emergency number for her Vet so I will go ahead and give him a call just to be sure happy.gif

Hi Elgene!

Thank you so much for helping me. Jade has been drinking lots of water, hopefully she feels better tomorrow. I am just going to hold on on the food. This is actually the second time she went to the beach (forgot about the first time) but the first time she didn't drink any and today she decided she wanted to try it sad.gif Do they get the point and not do it again? I really hope so happy.gif

I suggest you call the nearest all night ER vet clinic and ask t

I'd be very concerned about dehydrating after throwing up that many times. Good luck!

Been there.

I had this happen with Hercules the first couple of times he went to the beach too. I agree that you should try some pepcid to settle the stomach. It's tempting to let them drink water, but don't let Jade drink too much because it might cause her to keep throwing up. You can give her ice cubes to chew on, and try giving just a little bit of water at a time. I would not feed her until you are sure her tummy is settled, if it means skipping dinner that's OK. If she is doing better you can always try giving her a very small amount of food. Good luck!

I am making some rice for her but I think I'll wait and give her food until tomorrow. She has been drinking water which is good happy.gif

Hey Diana

I went through this with Chester when he went to the beach for the first time. I just gave him plenty of water and he was fine the next day.

You could try...

Some pepto (I like the pill) or pepcid to settle her stomach.
I'd go with some rice in a little bit of low salt chicken broth later (once you know her tummy has settled). Not too much. She should be OK by tomorrow. Poor sweetie.

Her throat may be a bit irritated from vomiting 8 times.

We want food withheld while she may still have some stomach cramps because we don't want her inhaling vomit. If she does begin to vomit, its best if she is standing so she can get the material up and out. San Diego is not an area that you would find lots of antifreeze in the water...maybe a bit of diesel oil from boats but people don't use it much here so there really wouldn't be much to even wash down thru the drains. Some rest, some rice mix tomorrow for breakfast(?) and if she holds that down then a normal dinner.
