I think that we used cortisone on it, but her's was on her chest and she couldn't lick it. However, your's is starting to change, I can see the dark area...it will get irritating and continue to get darker and probably bleed some, then it will come off.

It was about the size of a dime and it looked just like what your dog has. Someone else here on this board had a dog with one on his paw. Here is a link to more info about a "Histiocytoma."
I would still have a vet check it to verify that it is a Histiocytoma.
Roxy's vet told me that if it didn't go away in two months, to come back and she would cut it off. It finally started shrinking just short of 2 months when I started putting Novalsan Otic (ear cleaner) on it. Not sure if the ear med had anything to do with it going away or not. By 2 1/2 months it was gone and thankfully it didn't leave a scar.

I have been through 2 rounds of antibiotics trying to clear up several of these. I also posted on here and got a few really helpful hints- Stridex/CLearasil wipes - just like what you would buy a teenager at walmart. i have been wiping Bella's spots twice a day and they are drying up nicely. If it is on a spot that is wet from chewing, you can also try gold bond powder to keep it dry. This seemed to help more together than the antibiotics did.
Mine also seem to be aggrivated by her collar, so we have started removing the collar and hanging it by the door so that we can return it when she goes out (we have an underground fence).

we took her to the vet and asked him to remove whatever it was. He said save your money....it's a hisacytosis (sp?)...caused by a virus and will resolve on its own. However, it may get darker in color, larger and may even bleed or ooze a little. The vet said if, I wanted to spend the $$$$ to remove it he would but that if I would give it a month or two...that it would be gone. He was right, it got alot uglier before it finally fell off or sloughed off and then healed on its own.
Belle's was on her chest and she only has a very small scar there and her hair is a little bit more thin there. If you didn't know she had had something there before you would never notice it. We still show her.

antibiotics shouldn't work on it...
because it is caused by a virus. Good luck.

Denise, there was a post exactly like this recently.
Same looking sore on the leg. I think it wasn't more than a couple or three weeks ago. Hang on, let me try to find it and I will post it for you....
