Broken toe nail

Christine had Gus out and about yesterday and during our nightly inspection I realized he has a broken rear toe nail.Its pretty much hanging off and pretty much at a right angle,looks like he caught it on something.Its not bleeding but it is pretty tender today,It never bled but looks like its going to fall off.My question is this:how likely is it to get infected and should I just keep an eye on it or bring to the vet and let them remove it ?

With one of our girls. I am a nervous nelly and took her right to the vet. It turned out that, luckily, the quick wasn't involved and the vet took the torn nail off, bandaged the foot and all was well. Personally, I think that it's worth a trip to the vet; even if it costs money, an infection or further problem will cost more. Me, I would never bother to go to the doctor unless I'm really in bad shape, but with my dogs I go right away!

tore his toenail off halfway too, it did bleed aot however.  It didn't come off completely, but when I took him back to the vets, it was just hanging off, and they removed it.  It did grow back though.  Sometimes they do sometimes they don't grow back.

I was just worried it could get infected and I wouldn't be able to to tell due to the hair on his toe.Bad thing is part of his day with Chris was to the vet yesterday,I feel bad for her,everytime she gets alone time with Gus he has something happen,last time a dog attacked him and the time before that same thing !

you can try to super glue it :O)

Raven tore her entire dew claw completely off just a short time ago... was not pretty but she has done fine.. she didn't even leave anything to glue :O(
