Bordatella nasal vaccine

has anyone's puppies had a reaction to this?

Puppies got this two weeks ago. One puppy now has a snotty nose. Not sure if it could be from the vaccine. He was outside Saturday evening and I think he may have sniffed up a petal from an apple tree blossom because he sneezed a few times right after I saw him sniffing on the ground by them. Might have just happened to sneeze because he had been running around and his nose might have just gotten runny then too. Dunno

Tuesday he went to his new home (his nose seemed to be pretty much ok..just a little moisture occasionally or he would have stayed here until it was all better) Owner said he woke up this morning with yellowish stuff coming out of his nose. She is taking him to the vet this afternoon.

The other puppy that is here has sneezed a few times in the past few days too with just a slight watery discharge.

Ozzy

Ozzy has gotten sick after this vaccine twice now. It took the second vaccine to put 2 and 2 together.

thanks for the responses

Owner took pup to the vet yesterday. He didn't know if the snotty nose was from the vaccine, inhaled blossom petal or what but put him on antibiotics. No temp and lungs sounded fine.

Puppies were 12 weeks old when they received the vaccine.

Bordetella--nasal

insert says safe for pups as young as 4 wks. gave it to a litter of 6wk old pups and every pup came down with kennel cough symptoms--some really bad. Now I don't give it until 12 weeks and have not had a problem--but usually I give inj at 12 weeks and nasal at 15 wks.

Re: Bordatella nasal vaccine

There can be a reaction to the Bordatella in pups or adults. Usually I give a pup a half dose and then another half dose in about a month. The reaction mimics a mild case of Kennel cough. If you give it to a dog that is compromised or has an URI, it can get bad.
Hope the pup continues to get better.

some symptoms

My older girl had the nasal about a month ago and she got a runny nose... then the puppy also got some symptoms. The older girl "shed" the virus to the pup which actually is good for her as when they shed, any dog they come in contact with won't get a serious form of kennel cough (supposedly). My little one doesn't have her bordatella yet but I'm sure if I did titers on her, she'd be okay.

Re: Bordatella nasal vaccine

I've read that they are highly succeptable of getting sick after the receiving the shot. I guess its like feeling the flu symptoms after getting the flu shot. I keep Chunky "quarantined" in the house a couple of days after he gets his shots...no dog park or public places where others dogs are.

So far, it has worked for me. He hasn't gotten sick yet. He's gotten the shot 3 times in the past year and a half.
