blood in stool..help

Hello.
I am a bit worried..Charlie is having soft stools again.. started yesterday.. thought it was because of the xtra liver he enjoyed at the dog show..
It is still soft today , but has a touch of blood in it.. very small amnt.. but its there..He is eating well acting like a crazy puppy..still trying to lay out in the heat..*sigh*
I don't want to start rushing him to the vet at every little thing.. heck I still stay up at night to make sure he is breathing..(I can be too much of a worrier when it comes to him) He is only 4 mnths and a week old.. I worry constantly about him dieing..
Anyways, should I rush him to the vets..what are your thoughts.

colitis....

over excited...ate a bit much....rest the tummy as much as possible....i would go to boiled hamburger and brown rice if in 24 hrs you still see blood....a pepcid or tums would would reduce the acid in her tummy.....
but if the dirrhea increases and their is blood and if she should start to vomit...go to the vet...their are a lot of nasty bugs out their....

My best guess is too many treats at the show!

It probably irritated his bowels, which then became soft and the lining is just bleeding a little from that. I have had this happen with almost every dog I have owned...at some point.Get him back on his regular feed with NO other treats, nothing. Give him a few days and it should clear up. If it becomes heavy or he starts acting off, or if he has gray or white gums, then a vet visit is needed.

Just feed the hamburger/rice diet for a couple days...

and it should calm him down and bind him up a little. I know he's a pup and this wouldn't be for longterm but for 2-3 days it should be fine! Cook 1 cup raw regular(not instant) rice with 2 cups water according to package instructions...easier if you have a rice cooker. Saute 1/3lb of lean hamburger (or ground turkey if your dog is allergic to beef) until lightly cooked. Toss well with the cooked rice, and serve regular portion. This makes enough for two adult meals...probably 3 or 4 for your pup. Do not add any seasonings, or dairy, or oils to this meal...its meant to be bland and easy to digest and the rice/starch should be easy on his GI tract...its very similar to the Science Diet ID canned that vets often prescribe for intestinal upset. happy.gif
