Been a few months since i've been on....we moved etc...

Mimi has limped a few times since being a baby and she was overweight as a pup and was on puppy food a few months longer than she should have been. Her weight is good now but the damage has already been done. Her Acl is messed up. She was limping, but not now since I put her on rest, but took her in and it is definitely is messed up. So we rest her for 6 weeks, and then see, or give her surgery. She seems ok, but she's my sweet heart, and she's a good dog and a happy dog (I think, lol). I figure if it heals naturally though, it can be re injured over and over with play. It then becomes a matter of- does the dog go through life with a bum knee... well, for now we take it easy and wait.

Hope all is well out there!

Love, Jen and Mimi

Try this

supplement called Hylasport. It is a msm/chondroitin/glucosamin. They also have a similar version they use on horses with great results.

I am not a paid promotor of this, but I will tell you my 8 year old bulldog jumped off our bed. A couple days later he wouldn't bear weight on his back leg (I thought maybe he had slipped on the ice). Took him to a vet 2 hours away, xrays, and whole work up. Said he had torn his ACL, wanted ortho consult. I told them I wanted to put him on strict crate rest (as I had a friend had same situation and that helped) I wanted to avoid surgery d/t his age. Put him on a treat supplement with glucosamine and chondrotin.

In the mean time I had went to a dog show, they were giving this supplement out for FREE. I thought what the heck, took it home and tried it and with the crate rest, potty breaks on leash. I noticed Goliath putting more and more weight on his back leg, and within a month of all this he was back to walking with full weight. He is now back to his self, but I will tell you....NO ONE....jumps off the bed anymore.

Here is the link....and they are 100% guaranteed and give you free shipping.

We had the same experience with Scarlett

she healed and his her normal crazy self now. She goes up and down two flights of stairs at least twice a day no problem and runs around the yard like a mad woman. It's been over a year since she first injured it.

Nothing wrong with waiting to see how it goes, but

if you end up having to go the surgery route she'll do fine. My girl is back to 100% after having CCL repair on one knee and then luxating patella repair on the other. She's like a different dog now...goes for walks every day and runs around like a crazy woman. You'd never know she had knee problems if it weren't for the matching scars on her back legs.

Opal damaged her acl a couple of years ago...

I brought her to my very knowledgeable bulldog vet who said that if she can put weight on it then it's not completely torn and will heal.

She was on crate rest for several weeks and it did heal. It's been fine ever since.

I hope the same result for you.

Good luck,
Sue
