Chunky has a developed a bald spot on his coat, a little smaller than size of a dime. I'm wondering if it can be anything else other than mange. I have left over Goodwinol ointment that was prescribed to him about a year ago when he had a localized area of mange.
Should I try and use the ointment or go get a skin scraping?
It could be something else....
Ajax has some bald spots that were originally thought to be mange. The vet did a skin scraping and found a couple of mites. We went back a couple of weeks later for the follow up and another skin scraping revealed just a couple of mites. She said that if it had truly been mange, there would have been hundreds of mites by now. She now thinks it is a fungal infection and we are treating him with a cream. She sent a hair sample to be cultured to rule out ringworm, but she doesn't think it is ringworm. I am definitely not an expert and Ajax is our first bulldog, but I would suggest going to the vet and getting a skin scraping. Some of the more experienced owners on the board may have different advice and I would defer to them.

A skin scraping is your best bet...
There are a number of things that can cause a small bald spot, so a skin scrape will probably give you the best answer.
