Anyone's bully have a reaction to NuVet??

We started Deuce on NuVet supplement almost a month ago. Well, all of a sudden he developed these blister things under his nose rope and his eye wrinkles got very irritated and inflamed and his eyes watery. I could NOT figure out what was going on so then I thought about if anything changed in the last few weeks that could have brought this on...the NuVet. So I decided to conduct an experiment and I took him off them, his eyes are cleared up and the blisters under his nose rope are going away!! I was sooo surprised because I had heard nothing but great things about NuVet. And I am in NO WAY knocking it because I do think it is a wonderful product. But I am wondering if anyone else's has experienced the same thing? And any idea as to what is in it that would cause this? There is brewers yeast in the ingredients, could that be it??

Also, I do want to give him vitamins/supplements. We already give him one fish oil capsule a day, any other suggestions? I searched here and see alot of you give glucosamine/condroitin, would you recommend this? Also, he is 9 months old, it this too young? Any other suggestions??

Thanks!

I will get some of the glucosamine/chondrotin supplement. Can I just give him a whole pill per day?? Or do I need to break it in two?

I would like to try another multi-vitamin but I am afraid he will have the same sort of reaction. I have looked at the ingredients of K9 Showstopper and PetTabs Plus but since I can't pinpoint what he reacted to in the NuVet I don't want to try it again. Oh well sad.gif

Glucosamine/Chondrotin supplement

Your dog isn't too young to start him on this.
All my dogs get a half tab of 1500mg/1200mg morning and evening. Even the tiny pups get some that has been ground up and mixed with yogurt. My theory has always been that with the number of issues Bulldogs can have with their joints, it is never too early to provide them with the building blocks needed for good joints.
And to confirm my theory, there was a study recently released that concluded that if a dog is supplemented before problems arise, there is less likelihood that there will be joint problems.

I've used it and it was OK,

but I didn't see any giant improvement in my dogs while they were on it. There is a variety with the Glucosamine/Chondrotin in it (haven't tried that yet) check to see if the amount delivered in a daily dose is enough to be of a benefit.
Really though, if you get the supplement at Sam's Club, Costco, Pace, etc. it is cheaper than any other way to supplement with it.

For a while I was mixing up a concoction of herbs and other stuff that was on par with a really expensive supplement I tried and liked that I got from a guy who developed it and marketed it at shows, he had a version for cats and horses too. I was able to duplicate it for about 1/3 rd the cost of it direct from him.

I don't think they would expire before then

if you keep them in the jar with the lid on tight, all their stuff is well packaged. I see no reason not to give any of their stuff to a young pup. I crumble up the Fresh Factors and put them into the mush I wean pups with, I'm talking 3-4 week old babes.

I think the label reads (for humans) to dose 2X daily

You can buy a pill splitter for $5 to make it easy to halve. I put it in the dogs' food dish and cover it with a spoon of yogurt.
Another supplement I have used for years with success and no bad reactions is 'Fresh Factors' from Springtime Inc. It is a good basic tab that helps with skin, coat and joints. The company also has a 'Bug Off Garlic' product that I use in the spring thru fall months for flea and mosquito protection. It works well enough that I don't have to use a topical flea product that could cause a reaction.

I have had nothing but positive results using NuVet. My breeder

and Vet strongly recommend it. Mugzy has not had any medical issues at all. Whether it is genetic or related to the NuVet I dont know but it it aint broken dont fix it.

I also give one Lipiderm capsule per day... I know some people that have reactions to vitamins so i guess the same can happen to dogs.

If you get more info I would like to know too.

Thanks and good luck!
