About the Temaril-P. Dr. Sweet recommended it for Mattingly too. We've done the recommended doses and now are on the "lowest possible dose". But it seems like it's still NOT working! I'm doing 2 pills every other day because she said that if I gave it to him everyday then his adrenal glands won't work properly. So what do you think I should do dose wise?
It seems as though he's just as itchy on the days I give him his dose then on the days I don't. This is nuts!

My loverboy/gentleman wasn't himself on pred, it helped his skin, but I hated what it did to his personality, he was thirsty 24/7 and had to pee all the time, snapped at the other dogs on occassion (he would never do that off the meds) so I switched hm to Temaril-P and he is back to himself and his skin is under control (most of the time). But, each dog is different, what works for one, may not work for another.

My vet & I discussed for one of mine sort of as a 'if all else fails' drug, but currently this bully is having success on Temaril-P. We did the pred route, I really didn't want to stay on that route, changed diets several times, but a maintence dose of Temaril-P (has 2.5mg of pred + an anti-itch agent) seems to be helping keeping his outbreaks at bay. Best of luck...skin/allergies are so frustrating!

always prescribed it. There was a Boston Terrier and a Poodle that did wonderfully on it, but the Bulldogs never did do well with it. There wasn't hardly any improvement at all, so most of the owners stopped the treatment and were very frustrated with how much money they lost. I remember this one bullie that had hair falling out in patches and had awful allergies, and there was zero difference after a while on the treatment.

It will weaken her immune system greatly. Just what I know of it from all the research I did years ago... I never resorted to it for Grover's allergies. I wanted to build his immune system, not supress it, so I never used it.

Like 4 or so months and we never did see any difference but he has major allergies and nothing seems to help him. For us it was for sure not worth how much it cost which is ridiculous how much it actually cost.

before he died (at only 3 1/2 years of age). i had an autopsy done to see if he died from the atopica. they couldn't link it directly, but i think it had something to do with his overall health after taking it. it's your choice, but if i could do it all over again, i wouldn't touch the stuff! unfortunately, i read alot about it after he had a heart attack (which we thought was a seizure at first). i will say it worked wonders for his idc's but not worth all the other issues. he lost alot of weight because he wouldn't eat. i tried different foods to try to get him to eat, but still wouldn't. i can't even remember everything i didn't like about it, but if my new puppy cooper ever has allergies, he's not touching atopica! i'm scared of it! google it & read all you can before you give it to your baby, please! good luck!

I hate giving her pred
She gets an "attitude" every time she takes it.

Thanks Everyone
I bought a 15 day supply but now I am very reluctant to give it to her. I wonder if the Vet would take it back.
