He has loud, rattling breathing and large strings of drool hanging from his mouth. He is eating well, passing stools, urinating and not acting strange other than the symptoms in the first sentence. Any ideas?

His behavior started yesterday, when I noticed the drool. Then the raspy breathing started. His abdomen is not distended and the gas went away. The raspy breathing continued all night (I didn't sleep much as I kept an eye on him) and it is still here this morning with the drooling. He seemed a bit lethargic this morning, but when I mentioned food (surprise, surprise) he leaped right up. I'm taking him to the vet. My wife is betting he has a rock stuck in him... Thanks for the advice!

Give him something for the gas...preferably a Pepcid or Tagamet. Also try some large swirling motions along his sides/belly to see if you can "move" a gas pocket down towards his anus. This has worked sometimes for my old gal. Do not feed until he poops and the panting stops. If he isn't better by midday tomorrow, see the vet, maybe have an x-ray of his mid-section.

how long has this been going on?
is he panting, that will cause air and gas.
Drewling is a sign of not feeling good. Is it hot? raspy breathing is not good if it's at rest and for no reason.
Are the gums pink?
A vet check should be in order if your worried

I agree...sounds like a belly ache, with gas.

Is his stomach normal size or is it distended?
Maybe try some pepcid and/or gas ex. Drooling is a sign of nausea or pain, if he doesn't get better, I would have him looked at.
