Every once in a while my bully breaks out in hives, I have not been able to figure out exactly what causes them. I would really like to know what he is allergic to. I was wondering how you get allergy testing done? Do they do it at a regular vet? Is it expensive?
Re: Lisa....
Did you get the booklet from your vet or did Spectrum send it to you? The vet managing Dozer's allergies is 2 hours away from us, so he just faxed us the results of the allergy testing. After I spent hours online and in the pet store looking for a food he could have, I noticed a foot note that said there should be a list of safe foods. I called the vet back and they said they did have a list that Spectrum faxed to them, and they were going to copy it and mail it to me. I would love to have a copy of the booklet.
How long ago did you have Opal tested? How is she doing now? It ends up Dozer is allergic to our grass, but I'm hoping that with changing his food he can get enough relief that the grass allergy can be managed with some benedryl.

We did the Spectrum Test too ...
Found it to be every bit worth the $250 we spent on it. Hampton was having episodes of hives on a regular basis, so frustrating for us and painful for him. Finally got the allergy prone ingredients squared away and we have him on California Natural chicken meal and rice, with Wellnes brand 95% meat (turkey, chicken.lamb or beef) mixed in. He is eating well, has plenty of energy and his toes, ears and wrinkles are in great shape. I would recommend it

Lisa....
I had Opal tested also. Did the results booklet also come with a list of dry food, canned food & treats that he CAN have? I thought it was terrific & worth every penny.

We did Spectrum testing
I just had Dozer tested through Spectrum labs, which seems to be the only one our local vets use. They were $300. I'm not sure why they charge so much more. It was very simple, I rean Dozer in to the vet, they drew some blood, and 10 minutes later we were heading home. We got the results back in a week. I have to say it was the best thing I could have done because we found out he is allergic to every brand of dog food we have ever tried on him. It's going to save us a lot of trial and error with foods. Good luck!

my vet just drew
blood (alot) & had to send it out to a different lab. it was about $200, but it was sooo worth it! it tells you everything they're allergic too. environmental & food. i wish i would have done it sooner-it would have taken alot of the guess work away, as far as finding a food that works. good luck!
