My Cleo is all broke out with welts and itchy red spots since yesterday.
I cleaned my carpet Sunday and think that is the culprit. This is the second time I have used the carpet cleaner and same cleaning fluid. Katie and my other small dog have no problems. Gave her benadryl which has helped, but now what do I do about the carpet? She did try to eat a small throw rug I put down for the doggie door and had some of it shredded before I caught her with it. Not sure if that was the problem or if it is the carpet cleaner! Maybe I need to re-clean with plain water? Baking soda? What can I do?
Should I take her to the vet?

I have had....
This very thing happen to me when I stay at hotels for dog shows.. get there and within one day have had Cowboy covered in whelts... I called my vet you can give 1 dose of prednisone for it... and for him it worked great... so maybe ask your vet for that! Also when shampooing your carpet.. go over the carpets with vinegar.. seems to help...

I pretty much decided I was going to spend the late afternoon/evening going over the carpets with plain water.

I did bathe her and it helped along with the benadryl. Didn't think of using apple cider vinegar to rinse, will do another bath tonight and rinse with that. She was so miserable by the time I got home from work yesterday I just put her in the tub then kept her off the floor as much as I could!
Katie has a vet appt. later today for her last vacc. May just haul Cleo along for the vet to prescribe something.
Would be good to keep rx on hand for next time anyway. Benadryl works ok but might need something stronger if this happens again.

I would re-clean the carpet
Several times with plain water. Also, I would bathe the dog in tepid water. Oatmeal or teatree shampoo works well, but anything you have on hand is better than nothing. Rinse with cool tea (I steep tea bags, then cool in frig) or apple cidar vinegar for the itchies.

You can repeat the benadryl every 6-8 hours. If it appears to be helping the rash, I would hold off the vet for now. If the reaction seems to be getting worse, I would go and get something from the vet.
Good luck!
