Slugger passed away this morning, totally unexpectedly.

Well, tell me, what else can go wrong????

Slugger, our dearly loved 10 year old English Bulldog passed away today,
He was fine this morning. He went out to do his usual morning ritual. Pee, poop and kick up some dirt. Nothing was out of the ordinary at all. He was sitting in the living room for a while and them walked into his favorite room in the house, the Kitchen. He was laying down completely stretched out with his frog legs behind him looking so cute as usual. I took out a few pieces of cheese to give the dogs. Bentley our GSD took a piece right away which was unusual because Slugger was always the first to line up for food. I put a piece in front of his nose.. nothing happened.. not even a twitch of his nostrils.. So, now I drop down on the floor to look at him and moved his head and nothing happened.. He just looked like he was sleeping.. My husband is especially heartbroken because he really considered him his bulldog. He always said that when he dies, (my husband that is) he wants Slugger’s ashes to be mixed with his own.

Our German Shepherd came over and licked his face as if he was kissing him goodbye. My Great Pyrenees just stood off to the side looking at us crying and sitting on the floor one last time with our dear little, well 86 lbs. is kind of little, boy.

Slugger you were most certainly one of a kind and you will be in our hearts forever.

We’ll see you at the bridge one day soon. In the meantime have fun with the rest of your brothers and sisters already up there. We love you.

And last but not least, always remember Slugger's words of advice to everyone.

DON'T EAT THE YELLOW SNOW...

Wow, that was a good snow cone. photo goodsnowcone.jpg

Touched my heart

All these bulldogs touch my heart each and every day. I'm sad this morning and sorry for your lost of Slugger. Sometimes I have such a hard time reading that another bullie has left us but your words this morning brought me strength although sadness to deal with the loss of an aging bullie. My bullie, Matilda is 9 1/2, she sleeps so deeply this days.  I also get right down on my knees, with a feeling of dread, to look for the sign of her chest moving up and down and hold my own breath. I know now that the day will come when I will face what you have faced this morning. Your words and emotion touch my heart.

Oh no....

I am so, so sorry. It was too soon, but what a beautiful way to go, a full tummy, empty bladder and hanging out with the people and fur siblings who loved you your whole like. Slugger, you went on your own terms and that's amazing.

Doesn't make our tears any less but it does make them less bitter.

RIP beautiful boy (and make sure to look for my Stella, she'll let you in on the comfiest clouds for napping on up at the bridge)!
