Six Bulldogs At Rockcliffe (1915) Painting

This was posted on our Bulldog Standard Discussion Group and I thought it was such a beautiful painting that I needed to share.  It is by  Reuben Ward Binks (1880-1950).

What is so notably about this painting from 1915 is that the breed type is the same as today.  While we may put more fat on our dogs the structure has not changed, contrary to what many breed haters would like you to believe.

The black masked red dog on the left is a gorgeous example of breedtype and can be seen in top winning bulldogs today, the head on the middlefront red brindle shows a gorgeous correct layback and turn of jaw and the white bitch on the right front is just lovely.  I could share photos from several breeder friends bitches right now, one being mine/my sisters, who are of the same quality breed type.

The standard says nothing about height

there is quite a difference between the two dogs on the far left. Proportion is obviously important but with such height difference, the weight could vary by 10 to 15 pounds. Is that common in the show ring? I haven't been to a show in years.

I love that!!

The one on the far right looks so much like Stella!!

I wonder if I could buy a print of that somewhere... I'm going to look it up.
