I am not Catholic but a friend sent us this prayer from the patron Saint of animals ( Saint Francis of Assisi ) when my bully was in bad shape with his breathing issues.

"Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures.You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our god, in all your creatures! Amen"

I know this doesn't apply to all and can't help with a loss of a beloved friend but I wanted to get this out there for anyone that could use it. I know it blessed me when my buddy was close to death. I know this may sound selfish but when I read about someone's dog passing I can't help but think how crushed I will be when it is my SergeantMajors time - which I hope will be a while. So in closing I hope that this prayer helps someone else as much as it did me when they need it.

Thank you so much for posting this. It's seem like to many of our babies are going to the bridge. Just take my heart away. Even if you never meet the bullies you know them like they are your own animal. you hurt right along with their real Mom and Dad. Losing Gracie and Zapper who I have the pleasure of knowing for years Hurt when God call them home. I have to understand God only blesses us a little while with his special Bullies. I think we all need to remember this pray. I know I will.
