Our rescue Margie, three years with us.

She still has problem. We got her three years ago when she was terrified of everything. She's now comfortable with the house and the back yard but if frightened of everything else. We got her a babysitter for one day (not a 24 hour day, a 10 hour day) who reported that he went to her bed in my office and wouldn't come out to go outside to do her business, to eat or anything.

She's on prozac and that helps. Does anyone have any ideas on how we can make her a more normal dog? Help!!

I feel for you with this.

We have a lab mix that has similar issues.  We got her when she was 8wks old and she is now 4 1/2 yrs. old.  She is still afraid of our house/ refrigerator.  She has never been in our kitchen and sounds in the backyard will make her cower. Terrified of car/truck rides which is difficult because we travel with a 5th wheel.  We did start her in Day school/ training when she was young, so she does love dogs.  People not so much unless they have a dog with them.  She adores her trainer which has now started home boarding.  I would try to find a trainer/behaviorist to maybe help you to help her.  Give you exercises you can work with her to build her confidence, something traumatic may have happened to her or it could be genetics.  It will be baby steps and she may never feel comfortable.  When she accomplishes one of her hurdles reward her with the best treats ever.  Make it like she hit the jackpot.  I have to say we have tried alot of things with Sammie and after all of this time,  we have seen some progress.

Poor Margie

We got her when she was 8-years old. We were her third home. I do't think she was abused, but maybe neglected.  Thanks for the response.
