My sick puppy

So my name is Nikki and I have an 8 month old English Bulldog named Tootse (like Tootsie). As of recently she has had diarrhea constantly. She was on the puppy food from Merrick, which was with poultry and completely grain free and wheat free. Took her to the vet and her fecal results have come back negative for parasites but she is still pooping loose stool! She also can't hold it in. Every night she goes to sleep in the crate, and when the morning comes to let her out there is diarrhea all over the place. Last night she did it once at 4:30am and the second at 10am. I went out and bought her a new brand food from Royal Canin for bulldogs, because there were excellent reviews on it, and I also know someone who reccommended I give it a try because it really helped their dog out. Today I am fasting my pup for 24 hours until tomorrow when I will feed her some rice and beef to help bind her belly.

I could really use some advice or be given some kind of insight on the breed or what is potentially happening with my baby! (She has just gone into heat as well which I thought would have to do with it, but was told it wouldn't effect her stool). I do not plan on breeding her, unfortunately her heat came sooner than anticipated, she will be getting spayed in 2 months when her heat has passed.

Has anyone had similar experiences that could help direct myself and my boyfriend in the right direction? We don't want to bring her to the vet AGAIN, because we have been blowing so much money bringing her there for no results.

Meaty, Sophie and I will be praying for your sweet baby girl.....And I hate to say this---(I KNOW how expensive vets can be--) but would

you maybe consider a different vet for a second opinion?  Also, I'd hate her to dehydrate......Soooo sorry, I know it's hard.....((( HUGS )))

Get her off RC puppy as soon as possible.

You need to give her boiled chicken and rice until her stomach settles down. Then put her on a good grain free (Natural balance or Taste of the Wild or similar) that is no more than 25% protein and an adult food. She does not need puppy formula. She may have eaten something on the ground that is making her stomach upset. Make certain she is drinking well and keeping hydrated above all else.

No treats, nothing at all in her stomach but the chicken and rice. Slowly re-introduce her to the new food when her stools are normal again.

Regular canned pumpkin can help also...

put a heaping tablespoon on each meal.  Make sure you get pumpkin though and NOT pumpkin pie mix.  We had a similar problem with our Chester when we switched him off the breeders food, it took a while to get him back to normal.

Some questions?

How long have you had this puppy?

Were stools normal before this?

How long has she had diarrhea?

After many years experience I found that what worked best was total fasting for 24 hours--except water. Then 1/4 of usual diet and amount AM and PM. Next day 1/2 of usual diet. If stool is normal then I increae to 3/4; if not normal I go back to 1/4 or stay at 1/2 depending on how much poop. The goal is to slowly increase amount. There are lots of causes for diarrhea. Even overfeeding can cause it. I had one dog with "chronic" diarrhea only to discover she was eating berries and leaves from a tree in the yard. I got rid of the tree and diarrhea stopped. Another dog had diarrhea because she had eaten a peach pit that would not pass.  I always fed a high quality dog food so never felt the food to be an issue. However frequent or sudden change is food can also cause diarrhea. Medication-wise when I had the occassional dog I could not get regular on fasting to rest the gut and slowi introduction of food I found the combination of flagyl and albon seemed to work even if there was no indication of parasites or bacterial infection.
