My husband and I may be adopting a new bully soon. Need advice

My husband's friend has a one year old male.  We both have met the bully once when he was just a wee pup.  Cutest little stinker ever.  It's sad but the friend has to rehome him due to the new place he is moving into (no dogs allowed).

I am all for adopting him.  I'd rather we take him in instead of someone who isn't prepared for the care it takes just to "buy" him.  However I am also concerned about the possible problems he may have.  I know the bully was hurt once when he was a puppy (kids playing and the owner wasn't watching), but I don't know to what extent.  I'm not sure if the friend has kept his bully up to date on vaccinations, medications, etc.; his health is basically a mystery to us.  My question is this: which precautions should I take before we (or if we) accept him into our home.

I told my husband we should ask the friend to take him in to the vet with us so we can have his health examined (we would pay for the vet visit).  I also want to meet up to see how well the bully and Fatboy interact with each other.  Again, they've only met once so it's kind of hard to tell the type of relationship they would have based on that one day.  If worse comes to worse, we'll refer the friend to the local bulldog rescue.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What a cutie!

I think you are wise to have some concerns, however, if you can open your heart to this little guy, he will be in the best possible loving home he can be.  I welcomed a new bully to my home last February and she has hip dysplasia, but I don't care, and if it is an issue down the road I will deal with it.  You do need to be informed on possible future health issues, so, again, you are doing the right thing having him checked out.  When I introduced Izzy (the new girl) to Apollo (the 7 yrs old man) it wasn't love at first sight.  It took a couple of months, but now they are great friends.  Good luck.  It will work out as it is supposed to!  :)

Lucky boy!

This pup will be one lucky fella to end up with your family. If it all works out the only suggestion I would have would be to get some dog insurance since his health status is unknown (and you don't know the breeder, etc). Best wishes on this rescue missions. I truly hope he ends up with you!! xo
