Lost my beloved Finley

I don't know if any of you have ever had this happen but I took my beloved Finley in to be neutered and to have his palate checked at the same time. I picked him up at 6:30 that night. By morning he was in very bad shape had him back to the vets at 9:00 a.m. he died 10 min. later. The vet said he aspirated into his lungs. He died on his birthdday 1yr. old. I have 2 other bulldogs, but I miss Finley very much. I wish I had never taken him in to be neutered and his palate done. The breeder says the vet cut the palate too short. I don't know, I'm not a vet. I will never go back to this vet again. She was suppose to be very knowlegeble with bulldogs. Maybe yes maybe no. He will be missed.

I'm not a vet either and don't know what may have gone wrong. Neutering usually isn't an issue with bulldog savvy vets and it's still recommended. I don't know about the palate. But my thoughts are with you. Bulldogs are special beings and I know you must miss him terribly.

The vet released Finley the SAME DAY after palate surgery? My vet wouldn't even let me take my dogs home the same day after palate surgery. This was the only procedure he insisted I let my dogs remain overnight and sometimes even a couple of days. The risk of aspiration is extremely high after palate surgery. Food and water have to be introduced very carefully plus swallowed blood from the surgery increases the risk of vomiting. This doesn't mean it wouldn't have had a problem at the vets but medical aid would have been closer and quicker to help if he had not been home. This is not your fault.

I'm so, so sorry to hear about his passing. This is totally not your fault - I would think they would have kept him overnight after such a big surgery. No way at all you could have known :(
