Hi all! So nice to see everyone again! Any advice on English vs. French!

Hello Everybully!

I'm sure very few of you remember us, but we used to hang around back in the day. Our dear bully Prince Buster passed away 2 years ago, and we feel as if we're finally ready to open our hearts and our home to a new pup.

We are trying to decide between another English, or perhaps a French bulldog this time. Does anyone have any experience with both, and can share your experiences, and the differences between the two? (We are a city family with a small child if that helps)

Also, can anyone provide any guidance about finding good, reputable breeders? Last time, we went about it the wrong way, and want to make sure we do everything by the cook. We live in New York, and can travel.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, welcome back:-)

It's good to see you again! Hope you stick around some:-)

i have never had a Frenchie so can't help you with that decision. I love my Bully girl, and have to say I'm kind of partial to Bulldogs:-) Let us know which you pick, we will need pictures....lots of pictures!

We own both!!

We have an English female (Ruby, 4 years old) and a French male (Sam, 2 years old). If I were going to add a 3rd I would chose a French...mostly becaue he is more "portable and manageable" due to being smaller. He definately vocalizes more and needs more exercise (walks or playing fetch) than our English. They have similar issues as an English...in fact Sam just had his soft palate shortened and his tonsils removed. Thank goodness for dog insurance (we use Trupanion)

I know that Carol who breeds under the name of Bullmarket Frenchies is a very reputable breeder...I would track her down for breeder suggestions in your area. You also may want to consider looking at this site if you would consider rescue http://www.frenchbulldogrescue.org/adoption-info/available-dogs2/

French vs english

Hi! We have 3 frenchies (ages male 7,female 6,female 5) and we just got our first english (male 15 weeks) in January.  I may not be able to tell you a lot of the differences, but from what i already notice, the french are not quite as stubborn as the english.  I have also heard this from others.  The french females can be the more stubborn of the two, my male is just a lover, my 6 year old female is the alpha and will let everyone know it.  Our english has already overthrown the other two and is working on taking over the queen, hence why i say french are a little less stubborn. The french don't leave the water bowl and bring half the water along with them Ha!! So i would say the french are more tidy.  The french also top out at 30 pounds (in the winter) and the smallest bulldog i've seen is around 50 pounds, so the french are more portable.  My frenchies do snore, BUT not all the time, and none of mine have any palate issues.  I can hear my sweet lil english snoozing every time.  My vet had once told me that he wouldn't be able to afford his english is he weren't a vet, apparently his had many issues.  This is common in both.  My male frenchie has allergies, and i literally have tried everything. Holistic vet even two hours away every other week for a year and still no success. My females have had no issues whatsoever.   Both have the ability to clear a room, but if i had to choose which is worst, i would definitely go with english.  And he's still just a puppy! To me, they are very different, and so much the same. Before we got Rocco in January, we thought we would never have anything other than a frenchie, but something inspired us to get an English.  Good luck on your decision!!!
