Help needed!

Over the past few weeks Phoebe has become totally skittish. She runs from the sound of foil being torn, pots and pans coming out of drawers or any somewhat louder noise. She will no longer go into the laundry room at night when it is bedtime even with enticing treats and lots of cajoling, she barks at the least noise or movement. She appears as a dog that has been hit or threatened--this has not happened that I am aware of. I try to be reassuring and calming but she does not seem to trust even me. If someone has scared or threatened her I am totally unaware and cannot imagine anyone I know doing that but then.... I am at a loss as to how to get her trust back again and get her over this period. Suggestions would be great appreciated. It hurts me to see her so anxious and nervous and I really want her to relax and return to her old happy self. Poor girl.

Wow, I have no idea? What in her environment has changed?

Is she eating something different, are you using a different laundry detergent, air fresheners, candles, anything different at all? I there someone around her now that wasn't before? A new vet, neighbor, lawn guy, pool guy, etc? I hope you get answers soon. Maybe Lynn King will see this post and offer more ideas.....

Friends

I would first rule out anything medical. Hearing loss, eye sight?

Do you leave her with other people, friends, doggie day care? You say that no one has hurt her...that you are aware of. So ask yourself...who has been with her that could have hurt her. What is your living situation?

Then ask yourself what has changed in her environment. What about July 4th....How was she on that day?

Has she shown any of these tendancies ever in the past? Who new has she been around or has cared for her?

There are plenty of mean people that do stuff behind ones back....we've all seen the nanny cams.

How old is she?

Good luck with this

Hi carol, I'm sorry pheobe is going through a tough time. I don't have suggestions just best wishes that she gets back to her old self soon. Was she ok on Canada day with the fireworks?? I know it's tough seeing your baby girl not acting like herself. Good luck, Katie & Tucker

One more thing......

I know you had your grand kids visiting you. How was Pheobe with them?? Was she acting funny or did it start after their visit??

Thanks everyone for your support and ideas.

Phoebe wasfine with Jake and Kylie and really has not been in anyone elses care for quite some time. It is interesting that you mention her vision. When my son was here he thought she might be having some issues. I took her to the vet and he checked her and said that her eyes look healthy but found it rather odd that when he waved his hand in front of her eyes she had no response by blinking or moving. Didn't really have any advice beyond that. Maybe I need to investigate that avenue further. Her hearing seems to be supersensitive as she can be in the house with the screen doors open and can hear dogs coming down the street. She hears their tags on their collars. Crazy. Very puzzling to me.
