Dog Health Insurance

I posted a few weeks ago the death of our beatiful girl Porkchop. We now have living with us Tbone....the puppy with daggers for teeth. Now  I need to adjust to saying "he/him instead of "her/she. He's a great puppy with all the puppy antics but I still cry when I think about my Porkchop.

I have a question for all of you with pet insurance. Over the years...probably like many of you...have spent thousands of dollars for health care for our guys. This time my husband and I are thinking about getting pet health insurance. Any suggestions as to which company to go with for insurance? If you have pet insurance have you found it to really be worth the monthly premiums. If not, why not.  Praying we would never need to use it but thinking it's something we should of done years ago from what I've read on different insurance sites.

Thank for any information/suggestion you could give me.

I have 3 different one. I've used each one.

Getting insurance when they are puppies is the best.  One thing you want to make sure of on the initial vet exam.  Make sure the vet does not mention any thing in his notes of potential issues in the future.  Such as, entropian, nares or anything of this sort.  They will consider it pre-existing. My favorite by far is Healthy Paws.  They cover everything once you meet the initial deductible.  Gigi had her CCL surgery in May.  Her decuctible is $250.00 and we have 90% coverage they paid $4106 plus another $220.00 for her lab work.  I had a check in 7 days.  I have used a couple of times since.  We also have Trupanion.  They are good, but you have to meet your deductible per each incident.  Example deductible is $250.00.  Pup has an ear infection.  What ever cost would go toward the deductible.  Let's say pup has a UTI, you would again have to meet your deductible.  Last and not least, Nationwide.  I would never ever recommend.  They initially denied Nuggets eye cancer surgery.  They tried to say a study done in 2011 on 25 dogs was their reasoning.  Luckily, I have a fantastic opthamoligist who wrote a scathing letter about their BS study.  Low and behold they paid $2300.00.  If the opthamologist wasn't willing to do this, they would not have paid.  Hopefully this helps.  If by chance you were interested in Healthy Paws, I could email a referral to you and you can get a discount.  You can go to all of their websites to give you an idea of costs.
