Cherry eye question.

I've never had a dog with cherry eye. Quigley seems to have a mild case. It happens sometimes and sometimes we can push it back in. I plan to take him to the vet in a few days, but it's an expense I can't really afford right now. So, do you have any advice?

Just continue to message the

Just continue to message the gland back into place when it pops out. Our boy Dudley had this in both eyes, and over the course of time (months), the gland eventually stayed in place. Just make sure his eye is not irritated due to an infection or allergies as this will also make the gland pop out. DO NOT do surgery, it is not needed and often does not work.

Thanks. Sometimes we can't get it to pop back in.

Sometimes, as much as we try, we can't get it to pop back in. Is this a problem? He does not have an infection. We're going to try some benedryl to see if it might be an allergy. If it is, what should we do?

If you are having trouble

If you are having trouble massaging the gland back in, it may be inflamed and so a trip to the vet will be needed to reduce the inflamation. While there, have the vet show you how to massage the gland back into place. With practice it becomes second nature to replace the gland, but you will be unable to do it if it is inflamed.

Thanks so much to all.

I'm making an appointment.
