Any experience with palate surgery?

I think Jessa is a candidate before she gets much older (she's amost 5).  She sounds like a freight train when she gets excited and has to pant for quite a while to calm down.  I have an appt for a consult with the dr that did Chester's, but his was an emergency and very unusual and I'm looking to see what I'm in for with a routine palate resection.

Palate surgery really helped my Bosco

Bosco had the same thing, the heavy panting with any exercise and a really hard time calming down. His palate was so bad that he regurgitated his food all the time. He had the palate surgery and it was like night and day! He could play and sound just fine and eat a meal and keep it in his stomach. The recovery was quite simple. He spent one night in the hospital because they wanted to monitor him closely given bulldogs and anesthesia. We also had to soak his kibble to make it mushy and mix it with wet food for about a week. He wore a cone of shame to prevent him from rubbing his nose (he had the nares surgery as well.) He was prescribed some pain killers and an antibiotic, nothing too exotic. In Bosco's case, there were no complications. If your Jessa is a candidate, I can't say enough good things about this surgery. Bosco's case was routine and it really changed the quality of his life for the better. Good luck!

Thank you...

Sounds exactly like Jessa - she gets so loud and can't calm down.  Hope ours goes as smoothly!

Palate.......

we've done palate surgery on many of our rescue bullies & it's always been a huge improvement. Be sure your vet knows bulldogs! Also, there is laser and regular surgery.  I'm told laser is less bleeding but the laser gets hot.  Traditional surgery may require a longer recovery. Talk to your vet about recovery either way.  Also some vets will, at the same time do the saccules & open the stenotic nares at the same, so ask about that also.
