my dogs ears
Submitted by bruno on January 8, 2013 - 8:08pmCan somebody tell me what I need to do. My dogs right ear is swollen shut I took him to the vet and they told me to use a product named mometamax, but it doesnt seem to be working.

How long have you been using it?
I have used Mometamax with great results.
If it doesn't work for you, ask the vet to do a culture, your dog may need a more specific medication.

Swollen Shut?
Is it completely swollen shut? Did your vet prescribe an antibiotic/anti inflammatory as well to help with the infection? If it is completely swollen shut there is no way to get medication down into it.
How long and how often are you putting the ear drops in? Otomax is another med perscribed for ear infections. I personally like Zymox (you can order online over the counter) and have had more success with it then other vet recommended stuff...but it has to be able to work itself down into the ear canal. You can keep the ear cleaned once the infection is cleared up with something like Epi-Otic (over the counter product) ear cleaner.
If there has not been any improvement in 3 or 4 days I would be heading back to the vet.
If you are having cnronic ear infections you might need to consider a change in diet.
Your poor dog must be in considerable discomfort.
