Help - What's wrong with our bulldog. Dr's do not know but suggest we put him down

Our 2 ½ year old English bulldog has been struggling with what we were told was an inner ear infection for well over 3-months now. Fast forward, his health has deteriorated, we have been seeing a neurologist and he now informs us that it is neurological, possibly cancer, but cannot confirm and is suggesting we put him down.  Blood work, x-rays, ct scan, CSF collection, all returned normal. He was fine up until this year. Back in February he had surgery for his corneal ulcer/cherry eye - eyelid shortening with entropion repair. After that he developed, what we thought was an ear infection (head tilt). Since then he has been on one steroid after the other.  He now appears to be having pain in the lower right side of his jaw, and often shakes his head as if he has just gotten out of the water. He also seems to be in pain when eating or chocking on occasion.

Symptoms:

·        head tilting to the left, although better than it was

·        filmy green build up in the eyes

·        lethargic

·        loss of balance

·        loss of appetite – weight has since increased as we hand feed chicken/beef, ensure meal replacements and pureed vegetable

·        depressed/disconnected

·        occasional moaning

·        sore bottom right side of jaw

They are suggesting we put him down, yet tests come back clear and we have no confirmation on what exactly is wrong with him.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thats so sad...

I would hesitate to put him down too not knowing what was causing this.  Has he been tested for Lyme or other diseases?  I sure hope they can find an answer for him, poor guy.  You must be worried sick.  Hopefully someone will have some suggestions.

Poor Jaxson

My only suggestion is that you get him into see someone at a veterinary school.

I would not put him down when no one seems to be able to tell you what's wrong.  I know this is just a nightmare for you and Jaxson -- you are in my prayers for some answers and healing.
