Help for daily bloating - Very frustrated!

My wonderful bullie companion is now 12 years old.  So lucky to have had such a long time with him.  He still is going strong on most days.  After months of digestive issues and numerous tests, he was diagnosed with colitis and likely IBD or IBS about a year ago.  I thought I had it pretty well under control, but in the past couple of weeks he's had one of the worst flare ups in a long time.  He's always had a bit of an issue with a bloaty stomach.  And yes, I know all about the dangers, and I take many precautions to try to prevent it.  He just simply seems prone to varying levels of it.  One thing, he's a gulper. I can control his food gulping.  He only gets a very small amount at a time, several times a day.  But I am at a total loss for what to do about his water gulping.  I've tried so many things.  The gulp free bowls; tons of other types of bowls; raising the bowl; lowering the bowl; only giving a small amount at a time; etc etc.  Nothing seems to work.  No matter how much or how little water he has, he gulps it down with a bunch of air and bloats up.  He typically always burps it out.  But in the past few weeks, he's started having a harder time doing so.  He's spent several hours bloated on some nights.  GasX has become part of his daily meds.  I even took him to the Pet ER last weekend after he got so big it scared me.  He eventually vomited and was fine.  I'm very frustrated, and even a little scared for him.  And the Vet isn't being much help.  Any advice at all would be so appreciated.

Bloating

Our bullies have not had this issue, but one thing occurred to me about water.  How about trying a water bottle similar to what is put in a hamster's cage?  I've seen these in crates at dog shows.  It would be worth a try.

Maybe there's something that he could have to prevent gas/bloat before he eats and drinks instead of using Gas-X after he eats?

Just a couple of thoughts I had.  I hope you find something that works for your little man.

Thanks Monica!

Thanks Monica!  You must've read my mind.  I actually bought a water bottle last week to give it a shot.  But I haven't figured out a way to rig it up yet. My bully doesn't sleep in a crate, although I still have one from when he was little.  I may just have to set it up again and give it a try.  I just started trying Pepcid with him before he eats.  I'm going to use it about an hour before he eats, then still use GasX if he needs it.  I'm really hoping that this all works.  The bloating scares me to death and I'm really beginning to stress myself out over it.  And you know what they say, if we're stressed, our bully will be more stressed too.  Which will in turn make the bloating worse.  A vicious cycle.
